This fruit bearing tree is native to subtropical and tropical areas of India, southern China and Southeast Asia. It grows up to 9 meters tall.
Use: The fruit have a soft, jelly-like texture with a sweet, aromatic flavour.
Health use: The fruit contain fair amounts of Vitamin C and are an excellent source of Potassium.
Climate: It needs cool, dry conditions prior to flowering for good flowering to occur, giving the best results in moderately humid to humid subtropical and
tropical mid-elevation climates, generally in areas with average annual
low temperatures of 16 to 21 °C, average annual high temperatures of 26
to 30 °C and annual rainfall of 1400 to 2500 mm, with a dry season of 2 to 5 months. While it will grow in warmer climates, flowering is less reliable, resulting in average to poor fruiting in most, if not all years.
Growing: It is known to fruit heavily on sites with limestone soils.
