Description

Native to South America, this tall, fruiting palm is commonly 10 to 20 meters tall in cultivation. It usually develops a single, slender trunk but multi-trunked specimens do occur. The trunk is armed with rings of long, sharp spines


Use:

Health use: The fruit are reportedly high in Vitamin A and Phosphorous

Climate: Grows naturally in sub-humid tropical lowland climates

Growing:

Problem features: The sharp spine that encircle the trunk can cause serious injury.
